RIP Pastor Dom Duarte. Dec 3, 1947 - May 22, 2010
was born and raised in San Jose, California. My family's religion was catholic.
There were a
number of instances that brought me to a personal relation ship with Jesus Christ
In 1973 my wife was doing a Ladies Bible Study Fellowship program in Ukiah, California.
The Catholic Church had a Charismatic priest come to serve at the church. I worked
in the construction industry and met an evangelist at the local Assembly of God
Church. Through reading her lessons, and listening to the priest and attending
a revival at the A. G. Church, I came to a personal relationship with Jesus.
1976 we moved back to San Jose Calif. And began a discipling relationship in a
community of churches.
was at this point that God began giving me the burden to serve broken hurting
1983 we moved from the West Coast to Charlotte, NC. We then relocated in Waxhaw,
NC. We were led to open Helping Hands a service to the community to help those
in need with food and clothing and household items.
1992 God allowed me to become involved with the Community Shelter in Monroe, NC.
Shortly after I took over the operation of the shelter. In 1995 we began a remodel
and expansion at the shelter we doubled our size.
1994 I began to serve the population of the Union County Jail. In 96 we founded
a program called Life Skills in the jail.
2000 I left the Union Co. Shelter to devote more of my time to the population
of the jail and local prison system. we also established Restoration House Ministries.
House Ministries. is committed to equipping men to learn through
Jesus Christ to live different life styles. We take the message
of John 10:10 to men in jail and prisons. Jesus has come to give
us life more abundantly. In 2002 I reduced my time commitment at
the Union Co. Jail to focus on men's lives when they leave incarceration
and move back into society.
we house 8-10 men in Monroe, NC. We are in the process of helping men get back
what they have lost through wrong choices. We help with employment, and drug counseling,
clothing and housing.
